It finally feels like fall, my favorite season! I’m enjoying all things fall: pumpkin decor, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin bread, pumpkin yogurt… you with me on this?
I absolutely love them! I enjoy reading & responding to what they are reading/writing each day in their notebooks. It is so fun to have little conversations with each of my ELA students.
Have you read Wonder? If you haven’t you really should!
I heard about these books a few years ago, and have incorporated them into my classroom ever since. This year, I have challenged my class to become a WONDER CERTIFIED CLASSROOM. My kids love sharing their random acts of kindness at the close of each class, and hearing about the good deeds they are doing is my favorite.
Students share their act of kindness or an act of kindness that was done to them. I recognize the student, give them a marble for our kindness jar, and they initial our Acts of Kindness Wall.
So far we have 152 kind acts reported!
Our first jar is full, so I submitted it in hopes of being one of the first 500 classes to fill their jar!
This is a simple, fun and free program for 3rd-5th grades. Check out the details here.
My students are hanging on every word of Petey! Reading aloud to them each day is my absolute favorite part of the day! Petey by Ben Mikaelsen is an amazing book. If you haven’t read it, do … do it now. I’ve never gotten through it without shedding a tear. Believe me, you will fall in love with the main character and root for him! It is just so good.
A great book and an amazing read aloud for upper elementary kids! If you do read it aloud, I suggest you read it first. There are some touchy words/phrases you’ll want to preview. But, don’t let that stop you, Petey is a wonderful story with themes of friendship, discovery, and the power of the human spirit.
For other read aloud suggestions check out this post.
Each week our soccer hosts a team dinner for our boys. This week is my week to put together a dinner with a few other soccer moms! Ethan’s favorite sweets are these Peanut Butter Bars and he requested I make them for the dinner. Ummm, ok. They are quick, easy, and kid approved!
I’ve been wanting to share a back to school care package I received from a friend! She always sends me something sweet to get my year started off right, her thoughtfulness is definitely a favorite! This year a chalkboard to match my classroom theme! And…a set of Monte Selby CDs. I had never heard of him before, but am laughing out loud as I listen. With song titles like, “It Wasn’t My Fault” & “I Didn’t Know This Was A Test” how can you not?
It’s been a fast and furious week! I hope you had a great week!
I’m looking forward to a couple of days off and excited to hit the bleachers and cheer on my favorite soccer player! Have a great weekend!
