Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites 07.07.2017

Wow!  This week flew by! It’s already Friday and time to link up with Andrea, Erika, Narci, and April to share five of my favorites from the week!

Celebrating the Fourth of July in our town is a MUST-DO!  It is the one day of the year that our town and volunteer fire department go ALL OUT to make the 4th a day to remember!  I had the best parade date, my sweet grandma.  She has not been well lately, so having her by my side at the parade was very special!

The Shriners are always a parade favorite!

Mrs. Montana even stopped by and visited with the crowd!  She was so sweet and took time for a photo op!

Our small town has an amazing and dedicated volunteer fire department.  The department spends all year preparing for a 4th of July fireworks show, and!  People flock to our little town from all over just to watch the show, and it is so worth it.  An estimated 25,000 people come!  After the parade, a family BBQ and a short nap, our family headed down to the park in the center of town to grab a spot to view the fireworks show.  It was such a fun evening bumping into people we hadn’t seen for a long time, eating at the food trucks, hanging with family and people watching.  At dusk, we grabbed our blankets and enjoyed the best fireworks show in Montana!

The fire department always does a really neat tribute to our service men & women.  People light candles, hold up glow sticks or cell phones to recognize and give appreciation to those who protect our country.  It is really cool to look around and see lights as far as the eye can see.  This picture just does not do the moment justice.

The Fourth of July means time for a family BBQ and I was ready!  I always make my family’s favorite salad, Apple~Snickers Salad.  I think if I didn’t make it I may start a family feud!  Little do they know it is the easiest salad to make, I don’t even use a recipe!  I gather the ingredients: instant vanilla pudding (large box), whipping cream, Cool Whip, a bag of apples, and Snickers.

First, I chop the apples in bite size pieces.  I think I used about six apples!  Then I dice up five Snickers bars and add the pieces to the apples in a large bowl.

In a separate bowl I make the pudding as per the package directions.  But, I use 3 cups of cold whipping cream instead of milk.  Next, fold the Cool Whip into the pudding.  Then, add the pudding mixture to the apples and Snickers.  That’s it! I simply mix it all together and transfer to a smaller bowl and it’s done!

To serve, cut up a Snickers bar and sprinkle the pieces on top!  Chill until ready to eat!

My other take-a-long favorite is this recipe for Monster Cookie Bars.  A large mixing bowl is a must for this recipe.  These bars come together really quick and bake off perfect everytime.

This recipe is so simple, just mix the eggs, sugars, salt, vanilla, peanut butter, butter, and baking soda together until smooth.  The add oats, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and M&Ms!  How easy is that?  Throw them in the oven and in 20ish minutes you have yummy Monster Cookie Bars!

I wanted to share a few of my summer favorites with you today too!  I love the Burt’s Bees line, and this summer I have been using this Burt’s Bees Milk & Honey body lotion.  It is a definite favorite.  It comes in 1oz and 6oz bottles, I grabbed the 6oz, but will be going back to get the small bottle for my purse!  Another summer favorite is this Kate Somerville Makeup Setting Spray.  I mentioned this SPF50 spray here, along with a few other summer makeup favs, and it is worth repeating!  I absolutely love using this on my face throughout the day!

I am still working out/running every morning with an amazing crew of ladies!  I love the accountability they give me!  I’ve been wearing these Adidas UltraBoost x Parley and loving them!  They are so light and have a super flexible toe box, which is important to me. 🙂

I was so excited this week to share my Montana to Vancouver Island vacation series with everyone!  I had a lot of fun putting our trip together for the blog and then felt a little anxious before publishing it!  But, I pulled the trigger and put it out there!  Thank you for all of the encouragement and positive feedback!  I had so much fun putting the series together, I plan to continue blogging about our family travels in the future!
